Heinrich “Henry” NICOLAUS (Son of Georg Wilhelm and Margaretha JAHRAUS) was born 23 Dec 1839 in Heuchelheim, Bayern. He died on 18 May 1922 in Sacramento County, California.  He married 30 Jan 1868 in Volcano, Amador, California to Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" HAMLIN (daughter of Herbert HAMLIN and Mary SPOHN).  She was born Nov1851 in Louisiana. She died 16 Aug 1917 in Sacramento County, California.  Henry came to America about 1861. He settled in Volano, Amador and ran a Butcher shop. By 1870 he and fanily were in Plymouth, Amador. According to the California Voter Register 1896: Henry NICOLAUS was Naturalized on 10 Jun 1867 in Amador County, California. He was 5 foot 7 inches tall, had a Light complexion, brown eyes & gray hair. His occupation was butcher and his residence was 728 K St in Sacramento. Johannes baptism    Mary Elizabeth HAMLIN's mother Mary SPOHN HAMLIN was born about 1828 in Bayern. She died 5 Dec 1905 in Sacramento, California.  According to the 1860 US census she & Lizzie were living in Volcano, Amador California, near her brother Gerhardt. Her brother Gerhardt SPOHN was a business partner of Wendel KERTH, brother-in-law of Louis NICOLAUS, Henry's older brother. By 1873 she was living at 222 K Street between 7th & 8th Streets in the City of Sacramento. She ran various boarding houses in Amador County and the City of Sacramento. He married first 21 Jun 1890 in Sacramento, California to Loretta J. BOLH. She was born in 28 Jul of 1870 in Sacramento.  She died 2 Sep 1914 in Sacramento, she was murdered by her second husband Adolph PLUCKER. According to the California Voter Register 1896: Henry NICOLAUS Jr. was 5 foot 6 inches, had a dark complexion, brown eyes & black hair. His occupation was clerk and his residence was at 526 M St. Loretta divorced Henry in 1900. Henry and Loretta had at least two children: 7a1) Theodore Henry NICOLAUS was born Nov 1890 in Portland, Oregon. He died 24 Jul 1891 in San Francisco. 7a2) Evelyn Louise NICOLAUS was born 18 Aug 1894 Sacramento. She died 11 Dec 1955 in Alameda County.   She married divorce Charles B. JOHNSON. Henry married second 24 Sep1910 in Sacramento to Bertha Edna PEART.  She was born 26 Feb 1888 in College City, California.  She died 13 Jul 1962 in San Francisco, California.  She divorced him in 1928. Henry and Bertha had one daughter: 7a3) Sallie Elizabeth NICOLAUS was born 3 Jan 1912 in San Francisco, California. She died 21 Jul 1989 in Contra Costa County, California. About 1937 she became the thrird wife of Cyril Melford DOANE. He was born 1 Jan 1901 in Santa Maria, California. He died 11 Feb 1990 in Contra Costa. They had at least five children - Alger Nicolaus, Robert Malcolm, Sara Jane, James Michael & Stephen Earl. 7b) Gerhardt NICOLAUS was born 20 Jan 1870 in Plymouth. He died 24 Mar 1919 in Sacramento County. According to the California Voter Register 1896: Gerhardt NICOLAUS was 5 foot 7 inches tall, had a Dark complexion, Gray eyes & Brown hair. His occupation was butcher and his residence was 728 K St. 7c) Wilhelmina C NICOLAUS was born 23 Jan 1880 and he died 14 Sep 1883 in Sacramento.
